It is very likely that these records are for Francis Welles (or Wells) and not John Welles. Mickleton parish archives deposited in Gloucestershire Record office (P216 IN 1/1) show records of 1590-1664 were'begun in the time of Francis Welles, vicar there in 1593' and other papers in GRO give him as vicar there in 1596-7, 1612 and 1618; also his marriage there to Susan Write in 1600; Foster lists shows son Francis (born 1606) and John (born 1609) to Francis sacerd. of Mickleton.
