Some problems of dating here, possibly because of lack of records at Abbey Dore during Commonwealth, and the episcopal vacancy 1646-1661. A.T. Bannister gives only 1661/1662 as institution for Bernard (1662 being noted as time lapse, the King acting as patron for Viscount Scudamore) and shows that Bernard remained rector from 1661 to 1677. It may be that he was 'in post' earlier - no appointments recorded since 1642, but Ian Atherton in "Viscount Scudamore's "Laudianism: The Religious Practices of the First Viscount Scudamore" (The Historical Journal, 1991, 34,3 pp. 567-596) states he was incumbent in 1658, as well as recording the disagreements between Bernard and parishioners when he refused to pay the poor relief on Scudamore's insistence - the patron having a protective view of 'his' clergy.
Other records may belong to this man (see CCED ID 169339) but there appear to be dating errors which make allocating them here too insecure.
