Foster: "ser" MAGDALEN COLLEGE matric. 2 Jul. 1658; perhaps R Puddlestone 1671; Foster Ind. Eccles.

CCEdb records and Bannister Hereford Institutions confirm he was R of Puddlestone in 1671 until 1717 on death of former rector, John Whittington (R of Puddleston from 1628 to 1671). Both were also appointed as preachers there. But a death date is given for Whittington in 1664 as preacher which could well be a record of his ceasing to be licensed as preacher rather than a death, and in 1668; in the latter year the record gives a John Osland as rector - there is no evidence at all that this was so and it could be that the two names of John Whittington and Edward Osland have been mixed up, and dates for appointments as preachers mixed with rectors appointments. Clarification needed but as yet this cannot be certain. From Whittington's records it is most likely that Whittington was rector from 1628 until death in 1671 which fits reasonably with the appointments for Oseland below apart from the one where he is called John which is likely to have been John Whittington.
