A remarkably interesting Italian priest, humanist, scholar, author, ecclesiastical ambassador, subcollector of Peter's Pence in England, friend of Earasmus, on whom there is a wealth of information in print and on internet.
Born c 1470, died (back in Italy) 18 Apr. 1555; spent most of life in England, naturalised English 1510; sympathetic to much Anglican theology and ecclesiology. 1504 Bishop of Bath and Wells as proxy for Cardinal Adamo Castelleri; given various sinecures in pre-reformation church incl. parish of Church Langdon, Leics; prebends of Lincoln and of Hereford from 1508; from 1513 prebend of Oxgate, St Paul's, London. Was Archdeacon in Bath and Wells but handed the office back to the Crown in 1546; remained preacher in prebend of Nonnington, Hereford until at least 1542
