Ord. deacon (Lichfield) Sept. 1622; priest, Sept. 1623. Chaplain to Sir Rowland Cotton. R. of Stone, Staffs., 1626-8. At Hornsey, Middlesex, 1628-30. R. of Ashley, Staffs., 1630-42. Member of the Westminster Assembly. R. of St Bartholomew-by-the-Exchange, London, 1643. R. of Gt Munden, Herts., 1644-75, ejected but restored. Preb. of Ely, 1668-75. Hebrew scholar and biblical critic. Author, theological, etc. Aided in Wotton's Polyglot Bible. Died at Ely, Dec. 6, 1675, aged 72. Buried at Gt Munden. M.I. there. Father of Anastatius (1654) and perhaps of John (1650-1).
