Foster: s. Peter; M.A. from St. John's Coll., Cambridge, incorp. 1542, canon of King Henry VIII. College at Oxford, one of the privy chamberlains to Edward VI., knighted 1551, and sworn of the privy council, M.P. Bletchingley 1547-52, and March, 1553, provost of King's College, Cambridge, 1548, on the accession of Mary he was imprisoned and deprived of his preferment, professor of Greek at Strasburgh, taken prisoner, and sent to the Tower, renounced the protestant faith to avoid martyrdom, and died in London 13 Sept., 1557.
