VENN: Adm. pens. at JESUS, Oct. 4, 1788. Of Middlesex. ' Matric. Michs. 1789; B.A. (11th Wrangler) 1793; M.A. 1796. Fellow and President. Proctor, 1824. Ord. deacon (Canterbury) 1794; priest, 1795; C. of Brasted, Kent, 1794. V. of Comberton, Cambs., 1810. V. of Whittlesford, 1830-45. Joint Registrar of the Archiepiscopal Consistory Court of Commissioners at Canterbury, 1802-45. When, in the Long Vacation, 1793, the early 13th century arches forming the entrance to the Nuns' Chapter House were discovered in the cloisters at Jesus College, he was the only Senior Fellow in residence. It was hoped to have the arches uncovered, but he had no patience with new-fangled ideas and discoveries, and at once gave orders for the arches to be covered up again. So they were buried, and thus remained until 50 years later (Memoirs of H. A. Morgan, 299). Died Jan. 23, 1845, aged 75. (Clergy List, 1841-5; Cant. Act Bk.; G. Mag., 1845, 1. 669.)
