Adm. pens. (age 17) at CAIUS, Oct. 30, 1824. S. of Sir Lachlan, physician, of Sudbury. B. there. School, Woodbridge. ' Matric. Michs. 1825; B.A. 1830. His father bought the Grammar School at Sudbury and appointed him Headmaster in 1827, when he was under 21; the Bishop refused to license him. There was an action at law about this and also involving certain school property which Sir Lachlan was accused of keeping to his own use; the action was decided against him. Ord. deacon (Norwich) 1831; priest (Lichfield) 1832; C. of St Michael's, Coventry. P.C. of Christ Church, Coventry, 1839-44. V. of Caistor with Holton-le-Moor, and Clixby, Lincs., 1844-86. Preb. of Caistor in Lincoln Cathedral, 1868. Married Charlotte Smith. Resided latterly at St Albans, where he died, Mar. 23, 1895, aged 87. A very tall and handsome man; was blind for some years before his retirement. Used to be led about by an intelligent little dog. M.I. (window) in Caistor church.
