His knowledge of the laws pertaining to Church endowments and tithes was equalled by few, if any, of his contemporaries not professionally engaged in those pursuits....He was the friend of Porson, Parr, and many other of the distinguished men of his time, and, though not himself a great scholar, was a man of extraordinary mental capacity. Died Sept. 4, 1842, aged 81, at Pailton House, Warws. Bequeathed £1000 to Trinity College for a Scholarship for boys from Shrewsbury School. Brother of Richard (1763; CCE19045). (Clergy List; Cant.
