Chaplain of the Swiftsure (a vessel in the squadron under the command of Nelson), 1798. Present at the battle of the Nile; his narrative, A Voyage up the Mediterranean in the Swiftsure, contained the first authentic account of the battle. R. of Hardres (1806) and of Kingston, Kent, 1806-16; R. of Stourmouth, 1806-16. Married, July 20, 1801, Elizabeth Rebecca, 3rd dau. of Peter Snell, of Whitley Court, Gloucs., and had issue. Author also of A History of Sudeley Castle, etc. A clever artist, illustrating his own works. Died July 17, 1816 in Bernard Street, Russell Square, London. Doubtless father of Thomas E. (1824).
