Died in 1828 in his house at Caddington, Somerset, when he was worth more than £10,000 (Gent. Mag. 1828 98.283.) The obituary concentrates on his apparently remarkable 'stinginess', which apparently extended to feeding himself by buying a penny loaf and then touring the butter stalls sampling the fare. Apparently also treated by no fewer than 10 surgeons in his final illness, the result of broken thigh.
We are grateful to Nancy Wilson of Kentfield, CA, USA, for alerting us to this obituary.
