Classified in 1592 amongst 'no graduates nor preachers but grammarian scholars and catechisers'.
In 1601 Pendlebury was presented at Visitation of fornication, drunkenness and other offences. About 1612 he was described as 'a lewd [i.e. unlearned] minister, neither preacher himself, nor will suffer any other to preach', VCH Lancs., 5.4, n. 20 [for the latter quotation citing HMC 14, App. 4, 12]
Note that whilst survey of 1592 describes him as Vicar of Deane, his appointment as rural dean of Leyland in Dec. 1592 described him as Curate. This would be more consistent with VCH Lancs. 5.4, which gives the Vicar instituted the following year 31 March 1593] as Lancelot Clegge and Pendlebury only instituted in 1597.
