See VCH Lancs., 5.239. which gives date of institution as c. 1560, and notes that at time of 1563 visitation he was absent 'with the bishop of Durham'. It infers thathe had been an Austin Canon: in 1573 it was reported that he had pensions out of the late monastery of Guisburn (Guisborough) and late college of Bishop Aucklnad, and lived at Bolton.
