Earwaker, East Cheshire, 2.140, citing a return made by his successor: 'Mr John Etchells who was presented by Alderman [Robert] Garsett (founder of the school] was the first Schoolmaster who coming was (as neare as I can conjecture) about the time of the first foundation of the Schoole & before the Schoole House was erected. He continued in the office att the same place about 62 yeares entering about the 26 dying about the 88 yeare of his Age being soe lately deceased as Feb. 14 1670[71].'
