Previously (1790) Assistant Master at a Unitarian School at Highgate. ' Matric. Michs. 1793; Norrisian prize, 1796; B.A. (17th Wrangler) 1797; M.A. 1800. Ord. deacon, 1797; C. of Long Sutton, Lincs., 1797-1805. C. of Chobham, Surrey, 1805-10; V. there, 1810-34. V. of St John's Chapel, Bedford Row, 1824-6 (resigned and returned to Chobham). Acquired a high reputation as a tutor, preparing pupils for the Universities. R. of Witney, Oxon., 1834-53, where he promoted the erection of chapels, in the hamlets of Curbidge and Crawley and Wood Green. May be regarded as one of the very best representatives of the second generation of the Evangelical school. Married, 1798, Mary Stranger, of Long Sutton St Mary's, Lincs.
