Possibly Venn: Adm. sizar at EMMANUEL, May 4, 1774. Of Gloucestershire. V. of Holy Cross, or Temple, Bristol, 1780-91. A faithful and laborious Minister of the Gospel who, about the year 1788, became much ridiculed on account of his claim to have cast evil spirits from one George Lukins [an imposter] who had been reputed to be possessed of them for 18 years. This ridicule is believed to have shortened his life: see A Sermon preached at the Rev. Mr Wesley's Chapel in Bristol, on Sunday, the 30th of January 1791, on occasion of the Death of the Rev. J. Easterbrook, Vicar of Temple, and Ordinary of Newgate in the same city. Author, A Narrative of the Extraordinary Case of Geo. Lukins, of Yatton, Somersetshire...Also an Account of his remarkable Deliverance, in the Vestry-Room of Temple Church, in the City of Bristol... (1788). Died Jan. 21, 1791, aged 39.
