William Stanley served Heene and Durrington chapelries only fitfully, and in 1645 he was ejected, not indeed for laxity but because of his service in the royalist army in the Sussex campaign of 1643. In 1646 he was restored, but he left the parish two years later, a Mr. Bradford then serving the cure for £30 a year.
