Ord. deacon (Norwich) June 17, 1821. Head Master of a prep. School at Maidstone, 1838-43, and Chaplain of Maidstone Union Workhouse, 1840-3. Head Master of the Grammar School, Sevenoaks, 1843-54; publicly advertised as a bankrupt on the day before he was to enter on his duties; came to an arrangement with his creditors after 6 weeks. Accused of ill-treating a pupil and of general neglect of his duty. Cleared himself with the wardens. Married Sarah Isabella, dau. of Joseph Whiteley, M.A., deceased, formerly Head Master of Leeds Grammar School.
