Foster appears in error about this rector of Fitz, in giving one of this name as R of Fitz from 1661 but saying he was son of a James, priest in Devon and educated Gloucester Hall; but correctly that he was brother of Samuel and father of Thomas (1695) who succeeded him as R of Fitz. www.melocki.org.uk/salop/Fitz.html (accessed 20/5/2015) is certain from the parish registers that this James Clerke (sic) was the son of Thomas, rector of Fitz from 1616 to 1659, and that he was himself succeeded by his son Thomas when he died 8 Sep. 1702
