Venn: Adm. pens. (age 17) at PETERHOUSE, Apr. 2, 1747. S. of William (above), D.D. School, Hertford. ' Matric. 1747; Scholar, 1747; B.A. 1750-1; M.A. 1754. F.R.S., 1755. Became a Navy chaplain. Present at the sieges of Pondicherry and Vellore. Distinguished as an astronomer. Chaplain to the factory at Calcutta, 1762-4. Returned to England. Started again, in 1769, as chaplain to the Commission of the East India Company to Bengal. The ship was lost at sea, c. Dec. 1769.
