Ord.priest (Norwich, Litt. dim. from Bath and Wells) Mar. 16, 1794. R. of Greystoke, Cumberland, 1798-1852. Succeeded his brother Adam at Redheugh and Conishead Priory, Durham. Married Anne, dau. of Thomas Sunderland, of Little Croft, Ulverston, July 29, 1799. While on a visit to Corby Castle is said to have seen the famous family [p.85] ghost–which caused him to leave hurriedly the next morning in a state of great agitation, the reason of which was only revealed to his host sometime afterwards; for an account of the incident see The Longs of Jamaica, II. 510.
