Held other curacies till 1843. V. of Arlington, Sussex, 1843-52. Became a Roman Catholic, 1852. Ordained at St Mungo's Cathedral, Glasgow, Jan. 13, 1857. Brought the Jesuits to Glasgow and the Servite fathers to London, 1866. Lived to be the oldest Roman Catholic priest in Great Britain. Author, religious. Died Aug. 24, 1899, aged 95, at 16, Bedford Gardens, Kensington, London. (Boase, IV. Suppl.; Durham Subscrip. Bk.)
