Adm. pens. at EMMANUEL, June 20, 1784. Of Scotland. [B. in Forfarshire. Student at St Andrew's University, 1777.] ' Matric. Michs. 1785; Scholar, 1786; B.A. 1789. Took Orders and for a short time officiated in the Scottish Episcopal Church. Came to London, 1803, and devoted himself to literature. Essayist; a prolific contributor to the British Critic and the Anti-Jacobin Magazine and Review. For a list of the titles of his articles, see Anderson, Scottish Nation. Author, Sermon; The Regard which is due to the memory of Good Men. Found dead Mar. 24, 1806, in the house in which he lodged in Fetter Lane, London. (D.N.B.)
