[William Campbell, 5th s. of John, Duke of Argyll, an officer in the Royal Navy, was Governor of South Carolina in 1773 and at the outbreak of the American Rebellion. Married, Apr. 17, 1763, Sarah, dau. of Ralph Izard, of Charlestown, S. Carolina, and died in 1778, at Southampton.
