Archdeacon of Ely, 1701. Master of Trinity College, Feb. 1, 1699-1700 till 1742. During nearly his whole tenure he was involved in incessant disputes with the fellows. Regius Professor of Divinity, 1717-42. In 1718 the University deprived him of his degrees: they were restored in 1724. He died July 14, 1742, and was buried in the College Chapel.
