In 1759 Price applied to the Bishop of Chester unsuccessfully for ordination as deacon 'to officiate in Mr Henchman's cure of Thurstaston'.
He then gave a brief account of his life: b. at Tarvin and educated at Tarvin School until he reached the age of 17 years and 10 mo., 'at which age, having made considerable progress in the Latin Language and mathematical literature', he was elected Master of Eastham Parish School, Ches., enodwed with a yearly stipend of £4/11/- (with other perqs., income of £20 per annum). After 3 years and 11 mo. there he was elected Master of Woodchurch Grammar School, endowed with a yearly stipend of £20 (with other perqs., income of £35 p.a.). He has resided at that school since moving from Eastham parish, i.e. for the space of 1 year and 2 mo. upwards.
