(Kem's career included serving as a parliamentarian Captain, and in 1665-7 he was absent from Albury parish serving as a privateer during the Dutch War.)

His degrees as recorded in various registers are not consistent, but Kem is the only man in Venn or Foster who fits for this period.

Oxford DNB states that he became Rector of Albury shortly after he was created BD in 1636 and that he became chaplain to its patron, Edward Wray. However, he was not there in 1641.
