Possibly in Foster: John Abbot, s John of Shaftesbury, Dorset, pleb; BA 1738, fellow, MA 1741, BD 1754, DD 1755, R All Saints Colchester, father of Charles Lord Colchester.
It seems likely that the four Salisbury records relate to the same person, the only possible doubt being whether the curate of Market Lavington in 1749 is the same as the lecturer of Abingdon in 1755. But activity in the same diocese would suggest a strong case for linkage.
Assuming that the identification of the Lincolnshire John Abbot with the John Abbot in Foster is correct, then the educational qualifications of the Salisbury John Abbot make it clear that all the records relate to the same person. Certainly, the Salisbury John Abbot is the one identified in Foster. It is also certain that these are his ordination records
