R. of Rushton St Peter and All Saints', Northants., 1624. V. of Westbury, Wilts., 1631. R. of Wyke Regis, Kingsteignton and Portland, 1639. Deprived of all his preferments during the Rebellion. Lived in retirement at Salisbury. Maintained a secret correspondence with the Royalist leaders. Assisted Charles II to escape after the battle of Worcester, 1651. Bishop of Salisbury, 1660-3. Member of the Savoy Conference, 1661. Bishop of London, 1663-75. F.R.S., 1665. Died Oct. 7, 1675, aged 83. Buried in Fulham Church. Benefactor to Christ's and Clare.
