Ord. deacon (York) Aug. 7, 1814; priest, Aug. 3, 1817; C. of Misson, Notts., 1817. C. of Hatfield, Herts. Succeeded to the living of West Retford, Notts., which had been purchased by his father, in 1837, and was rector there till his death, in 1856. Married, 1818, Miss Wynn, dau. of a wealthy London bookseller, of 45, Paternoster Row. They lost a large sum of money in a lawsuit which alienated them from their families. Though possessed of ample means, leaving property worth over £50,000, he was believed to have died from want of the necessities of life. For their extraordinarily penurious way of living, see G. Mag., 1857, I. 115. He was considered a liberal landlord, and the poor of West Retford not unfrequently benefited by his charities. He was a man of studious habits, and an excellent Greek scholar.
