J.P. for the East Riding, 1857. A distinguished mathematician and a good Classical scholar, who numbered amongst his pupils, Bishop Colenso, Professor J. C. Adams and Arthur Hallam. Presented to the College library some manuscripts of Wordsworth, with whom he was distantly connected. Author, mathematical. Died unmarried Apr. 7, 1887, at Brandesburton.
