Commenced proceedings against Lord Waldegrave, Lord of the Manor, for the recovery of tithe of which the vicar of St Andrew's had been defrauded; the law suit lasted about 14 years, but was won at last. Removed to Gazeley and took pupils; removed thence to Thorney, c. 1833. C. of Thorney, 1833; returned to Whittlesey after the passing of the Tithe Commutation Act. J.P. for Cambs.; an excellent magistrate having a sound knowledge of the law. Archaeologist and geologist; one of the first members of the Camden Society. Married (1) Miss de Bros, dau. of a Paris wine-merchant and an emigré (2) Mary Ainger, of Whittlesey. Died Sept. 22, 1845, aged 62. M.I. at Whittlesey. (G. C. Moore-Smith; G. Mag.)
