Succeeded his father as V. of Monk Soham, Suffolk, 1845-89, where he built the rectory and village school, restored the Church, erected an organ and rehung the bells. Hon. Canon of Norwich, 1858. Archdeacon of Suffolk, 1869-87. Married, Feb. 1, 1843, Mary, dau. of the Rev. J. L. Jackson, R. of Swanage. Author, Lectures, Sermons and Hymns, etc. Editor of The Christian Advocate and Review, 1861-6. His short Suffolk stories, The Only Darter, Master Charlie, etc., a collection of which came out after his death, were very popular. An intimate friend of Edward Fitzgerald and other writers.
