Gerald Bray identifies as minister of Ayr Qualified Chapel 1771-6 and of Cowgate chapel Edinburgh 1776-99, where he was senior incumbent from 1795. In 1799 he was arrested and imprisoned on a charge of having helped four French prisoners escape from Edinburgh Castle. [Bray, unpub. edn of Manx Convocation records, n. p. 293]
