B. 1749/50. Son of Thomas Dampier [23485], then under-master of Eton College (where John was a pupil); later Dean of Durham, d. 1777; brother of Thomas Dampier [1456], late Bishop of Rochester and of Ely. John succeeded his father as Rector of Wylye, Wilts.; prebendary of Ely, 1812-1826. D. at Ely, 18 Aug. 1826. MI in his West Meon parish church.
