Doubtless s. of Benjamin and nephew by the half-blood to Sir Isaac Newton (whose mother, Hannah Newton, married as her 2nd husband the Rev. Barnabas Smith, R. of North Witham, Lincolnshire , 27 Jan., 1645). B. c 1700. B.D. 1746 (10 year man). Lived with his uncle Sir Isaac Newton, c 1718-27. Left England , c 1727 and resided at Paris [France] for about two years; proceeded thence to Rome [Italy]. Returned to England , c 1732. Ord. deacon (Lincoln) 24 Sep., 1732; 'eruditus'; priest, 20 May, 1733. C. of Stamford [1732]; R. of mediety of Linton, West Riding of Yorkshire , 1733-77. Buried there 07 Jan., 1777. M.I. Brother of Newton (1713).
