FOSTER: (Jamys) B.C.L. (sup.) 1548-9 and public notary; sometime principal of White Hall; an original fellow of St.JOHN'S COLL. 1556, vice-president, sub-dean and canon of Salisbury 1563, perhaps vicar of Newton Toney, Wilts. 1568. See Fasti.i.128; Gutch. i.538; & Foster's Ind. Eccles.
A letter from Edmund Pyke to Richard Wheeler mentions Mr James, Sub Dean of Salisbury and official of the peculiar of Bedwyn about 23 years before, of smale good fame, although verry ritche, yet he grewe into a malangecolly humour and hanged himself, and so ended his lyefe with most misterable infamye. WSA 1300/107.
Linked the R of Newton Tony because of the Ed. Qual. and because there was a vacancy there in 1577 due to death of previous incumbent.
