Foster: fellow of St. John's Coll. 1579, B.A. 21 Oct., 1583, M.A. 1 June, 1587, B.D. 10 Dec., 1593, D.D. 20 May, 1603, incorp. at Cambridge 1607, (son of Ellis, of London, turner), admitted to Merchant Taylors' School 1575, preacher to the English merchants trading at Stode, chaplain to two archbishops of Canterbury, rector of St. Mary Wolnoth, 1599-1609, and of St. Dunstan's-in-the East 1606, rector of Shenfield, Essex, in 1609 until sequestered, died in 1645.
