Venn: Adm. sizar (age 18) at Caius, Jan. 21, 1623-4. S. of Pennellus, tailor, of Leicestershire. School, Melton. Matric. 1623-4; B.A. 1628-9; M.A. 1632. Ord. priest (Peterb.) Oct. 2, 1628. Probably R. of Stroxton, Lincs. 1631. This, or another Thomas Brigg(e)s (CCEd ID 138527), R. of Wyfordby, Leics. Buried there Oct. 27, 1644. Father of Thomas (1650). (Venn, 1. 264.)
There is room for considerable confusion between this man and Thomas Brigges (CCEd ID 138527) - both at school Melton Mowbray at same time (this one 1623/4, the other 1624); the same age at matriculation. Although at different colleges this one matric. 1623/4, the other 1624; both BA 1628/9, both MA 1632. It appears this one ordained both as d. and p. in Oct. 1628 but called MA which he may not have been until 1632; the other ordained d and p in Sep. 1629. They are difficult to disentangle as yet. There may also be further problem in that V of Wyfordby, Leics in 1632-44 is recorded as John but could very well be Thomas.
