Foster: of Christ Church Oxford; BA 08/02/1536/7, MA 02/05/1539, of Lincoln College and Christ Church; vicar of South Stoke, Oxon, 1551, rector of Hartlebury, Worcs, 1554, prebendary of York, 1556, of Worcester 1558.
Venn also gives: Adm. KINGS, scholar from Eton 13 Aug. 1547; Born at Haynes, Beds., matric. 1547; left 1550; prebendary of York 1556; of Worcester 1558; of Hereford 1559; R of Hartlebury, Worcs., c 1558; deprived as Romanist c 1562 (Cooper i, 219).
This is likely (even if there are some errors in either or both) to be the same person. Article in Ampleforth Journal 17:2 of 1912, pp 205-219 on the 'Prebendaries deprived under Queen Elizabeth', Part I by John B. Wainewright (www.monlib.org.uk, accessed 27 Mar. 2015)seems certain he was prebendary of York (Wighton 1556); of Worcester 1558, of Hereford (Bartonsham) 1559; R of Hartlebury, Worcs 1554 and V of Southstock, Oxon, and deprived 1560 or 1561; the author has difficulty in seeing that Venn and Foster describe the same man, but it is pretty certain they do; it is pointed out that in S.P. Dom. Add. Eliz. XI, 45, and whenever Strype mentions him in Annals of the Reformation and the Establishment of Religion he is called John Arden, and as one of those who 'lurk so secretly that process cannot be served upon them' after deprivation.
