FOSTER: s. George, of Shalford, Surrey, arm. St. Alban Hall, matric. 25 Nov., 1664, aged 16; B.A. 1668, M.A. 1671, vice-principal of St. Mary Hall, rector of Ashtead 1683, and of Wotton, Surrey, 1684, until his death, brother of Thomas 1651. SeeRawlinson, xvii. 69; & Foster's Index Ecclesiasticus.
There is a mural tablet in St Giles Ashtead which read:
Neer this place, lyeth buryed the body of WILLIAM the son of GEORGE DUNCUMB Esqr. Hee was born at Shalford, in this County, was Master of Arts, of about 25 years standing & some-time Vice-principal of St. Mary-Hall in Oxford. Hee dyed in this parish about ye 54 year of his age, being Rector of this and Wotton Church, neer Dorking. Hee departed this life, on the 2d day of March 1698/9 in great comefort and in steadfast hope, of a life, more glorious & immortall in the regions of glory. This monument was erected by ye directions and care of PHILADELPHIA his loveing and beloved wife in memory of him & for herselfe. She departed this life the 23rd day of January 1724/5 in the 77th year of her age. Her first husband was WILLIAM SANDYS of Miserdine in the County of Gloucester, Gent, by whom she left issue one son PETER SANDYS Esqr.
