  Reference in 1804 & 1805 ordination records to Hertford College seem misleading as the following entry in Foster sugests he was not there; otherwise the Foster entry appears to fit well and is corroborated in Venn
  Foster:Son of William of Leeds, gent., QUEENS Oxford, matric. 11 July 1799 aged 17 as Charles; BA 1803 (Oxford, as Charles); MA PEMBROKE 1812; R of Berwick in Tisbury, Dorset 1822-3; surrogate; V of St Michael, Kington 1824-56; minor canon , Salisbury 1825; mater of Grammar School and Lecturer in parish church of St Thomas, Salisbury. Married in 1805 Elizabeth Margaret, dau. of Rev. Thomas Greenwood of Clane, Wilts; died 26 Apr. 1856 aged 75 at Salisbury. (See Clergy List, Foster Ind. Eccl, G. Mag. 1856, i, 659)
  Venn adds BA 1812 incorp. from Oxford but does not suggest he was at any college at Cambridge nor received any degree there
